The base MBP 13 is hands down the most sensible purchase among everything that was introduced yesterday. It costs the same as last year's MBP 13 with an upgraded 256GB SSD, but it offers a lot more:
  • much improved screen
  • significantly lighter
  • huge trackpad
  • significantly faster graphics (Iris 540 vs Iris 6100)
  • Thunderbolt 3
It's almost a no-brainer.

I bought one. I may want the 15" also, but i'm not sold on the touch bar at all.

Then again, I don't know. Could be fantastic. We shall see

BTW, these apparently are in stock at Best Buy. I just bought one to pick up today.

But they will cancel it if (they feel like it :D )

I'm thinking the Apple stores must have them. But good luck getting any info from them. Worse than Walmart when you call.

I'm not seeing this - do you have a link to the one you purchased? I see the old ones (they still say "latest model" - apparently haven't updated this yet).

It's apparently the right one. It's now ready for pickup also. It may just be my area; big US city.
Just type in your zip and either they have them or not. I noticed only a couple places had them out of about 15 Best Buys in the area. Then again, i'm not sure the reach of the zip search they use.

Also, the Apple retail stores MUST have them now. The only problem with that, is if you call they are clueless; as in: 'CLUELESS'. Best Buy makes this easy.

Wow, yeah... in stock locally here too. Best Buy got it faster than our local Apple Store apparently (I just visited to see if they had any and they do not)! I'm holding out for the 16GB model, but those who want it now should check stock at local Best Buy stores.

Right. Best Buy comes through. Ain't the first time. And just because you went to an Apple retail store and asked a couple people if they had them, doesn't mean there wasn't 10 sitting right there, trust me :D The Apple secrecy seems to go both ways.

note: I just realized that the 2 USB-C ports will be enough (most likely), as I have the stupid Apple $$ USB HDMI dongle I bought for my MBr. So maybe that purchase wasn't......

I disagree and went with a refurbished 13" for the following reasons:
1) NOT a butterfly keyboard
2) Useful peripheral ports that don't require dongles for all my existing gear.
3) SD Card
5) Mag Safe
6) Faster CPU (3.1 i7)
7) IMO "Pro" models don't need to be the thinnest lightest
8) The hell am I going to do with a larger touch pad, my old 2008 model is already large enough.
9) The new model has only 2 ports, one of which is taken up by charger.

To each his own. I'm glad the new ones came out as they knocked the price of the old ones down to "good deal" territory.

IMO yes. There are times on my current Macbook Air when I still wish I had more ram (I have i7, 8gb model from 2013). You don't need to be doing processor intensive stuff to need lots of ram. You just need to be doing lots of things like running a VM + adobe suite + chrome to appreciate the extra Ram. If (and that is a big if) I end up upgrading it would probably be to the non touch bar model with 16gb of ram.
If I need something to "touch", I will go with iPad Pro (touchscreen) not with MacBook Pro "touch bar/ID"... My only upgrade selection before I order "non-touch bar/ID" MacBook Pro is 16GB RAM!

I will order TB1/2 (mDP) to TB3 (USB-C) adapter, too.

Just picked mine up from Best Buy. Restoring data on it now. Love the form factor so far, and keyboard does feel a little better than the rMB. Thanks Best Buy!! Toy is here for the weekend, clearing all plans! :D

Do you have a scales lying around? Curious to know if the weight is actually the same as the touch bar version. :)

No, just the base 13" non touch bar in space grey.

Bought it at full price ?

No, had some reward zone points and took $100 off :D

My scale reads to the 1/10 of a pound, it's showing exactly 3.0 pounds. The form factor is great, just a little larger than the rMB.

I did have to sacrifice the RAM, 8GB vs 16GB in the one I had on order. After analyzing my exact use cases, I realize how successful I was over the last year with the rMB / 8GB (even running a Win10 VM) and decided 8GB would be fine. This will be mostly my "travel" machine, so form factor is most important. I feel as though this is a great mix of portability and power... *almost* just as portable as the rMB, but quite a bit more powerful with better processor and GPU.

Excellent, the 2 most important questions:
1. Is the battery life more than the claimed 10 hours
2. how good are the speakers

Thanks !

I was lurking in this thread, had a BTO 13" Oled version, chose to cancel it and go with a BTO 13" non-oled, thank you for putting some sense into me. a RAM+SSD upgrade is better than a OLED+RAM :)
