Oh but..wait, I can ROOT it, right?? Cause that's what normal human beings do with their phones when they buy them. They don't want to pull them out of the box, and then..I dunno..USE THEM. Noooo. They want to download the latest H0tNovaX5 ROM 15 times and reboot the phone another 20 so they can add a soundboard of their friend's beer farts.

Man, I wish Apple would catch up to all that!

I root both ios and android because I don't want nanny state style control over my computers, thanks :)

No roms or themes.

It seems like Apple should have hit a home run with the iPhone 6. They've been working on it for years. But, it's a bigger phone with a few things that others have had for years.

I really wanted something to make me say 'wow!'. Sure, iPhone customers will upgrade. They're a loyal bunch.

But Apple missed a great opportunity to convert the Android customers.

It may not convert you but it sure did convert thousands of other android users the non techies.

The folks outside of this thread are the average users who just like to have a working phone. They don't care about specs or hundreds of features. All they want a phone with better user experience.

Other than the state of the art OS, fingerprint technology, and a payment echo system that will actually be ready to go on launch day? A class of apps available to the device that run better than any other ecosystem on the market? Best-in-industry customer support?

Oh yeah, the bezel. You're right, that ain't high end. One thing *everyone* said about the HTC One M8 was how mid-range it looked cause of those bezels. Good poin...oh. Maybe it wasn't...?

P.S. Your next post will undoubtedly reference specs and you'll use some argument about "2012 phone" and yada yada. I'll save you time: Android phones have proven over and over again that specs really don't matter. Vendors release phones with bleeding edge specs that run like crap, lag, have tons of bloat, and offer features that work maybe half the time. I can't believe you guys still wave around your 3gb of RAM!! while the phone you're holding can't even get from one screen to another without stuttering.

Actually....not so much. State of the art OS, lol maybe 5 years ago. Android and even windows trounce all over it. Fingerprint sensor is on other devices as well, it's not unique to the iPhone anymore if it ever was. Bezel still sucks, among the WORST for all smartphones.

None of my android phones in the last year have run like crap or lagged, once again a pure and utter BS exaggeration that had some truth to it 2 years ago.

Not sure what root has to do with this, iOS has jailbreak doesn't it? Doh?

Oh, Samsung's version that required about 18 swipes to get it to unlock just once? Uh huh. And who argued its uniqueness? Strawman, anyone? The difference is Apple's, like, y'know..WORKS.

Considering Iv'e owned every single major Android handset over the last few years, I'll take my anecdotal evidence over yours. :)

Rooting in and of itself is fine. My point with that comment was aimed at those who think resolving complaints about Android bloat and lag requires rooting. That's not a fair or reasonable fix. Most people dont' do it and don't want to be bothered to do it, and don't buy phones.

The dedicated modder community would be doing this stuff regardless of how a phone runs, they're not really the point.

It amazes me how much Android people spend analyzing the iPhone, even though they have no intention of ever buying said phone.

This is my thought. I couldn't care less about Android. It's a sloppy fragmented system to develop for.

Google promised to fix this since March of 2011 and never have.

iOS doesn't have lag or bugginess? Have you ever used iOS 7.0? iOS 8.0 GM?

Both iOS and Android experience some lag, lag is sometimes in the eye of the beholder.

iPhone 6 / iOS 8 features have be present and well curated on Android for at least 2 OS iterations. You cannot argue that... but should you care? idk...

Use the best OS for your needs. I can tell you this, iOS and Android should be interchangeable, only differences is that you can have ALL of your apple products essential work together, in a smooth proprietary manner.

I feel like a growing number of average users do care nowadays. Just based on my own experience of people I talk to.

No, iOS is buttery smooth. Lag has never been an issue. You can point to individual apps here and there, or some anecdotal bit of business but trying to paint any iPhone iteration as laggy as the vast majority of Android handsets is a non-starter. The only Android handsets in the last couple of years that run almost/as well as iOS were the HTC One M8 and the Galaxy Note 3.

And no, I haven't used iOS 8 Gold Master. I'll wait for the final release. ;)

I didn't. We can throw this straw man on the same pile as "Apple pretends it invents everything!" That Android had some of these features previously doesn't mean anything. Most of them weren't implemented well (fingerprint scanner, NFC, etc). In fact, Android fans touting NFC as "nothing new" seem to be forgetting that until the carriers released Isis (now "Softcard"), you weren't even allowed to use Google Wallet anywhere. Funny how Apple Pay isn't running into that same problem. So weird how that works... ;)

Except NFC is not just for payments.. Well unless you are on ios. I'll give you the fingerprint scanners are not as well implemented on Android as they are on ios.

There is lag on ios... Dont be a fan boy.

Apples CPU ranks pretty badly. Also in that ip6 video in the news section I'm seeing a lot of forum members, apple members who have it pre ordered, complaining about lag, slow animation transitions, very slow screen rotation, etc. http://results.rightware.com/basemark_x/all-all-phone-ios-all

Also (hmm I wonder why iOS doesn't have true multitasking or multi windows): http://www.macworld.co.uk/review/iphone/iphone-6-plus-vs-galaxy-note-4-comparison-review-3572143/

"But given the price differential we would like to see the iPhone 6 Plus be noticably faster than the Galaxy Note 4, and that is almost certainly not the case. And if you are getting a big-screen handset to run multiple tasks at the same time, the lack of cores will eventually tell in terms of pure performance"

Also very cool, especially after all the geniuses saying the ip6 would blow away the note 4's screen, and from Macworld no less:

"While using the Note 4, we found that the screen had an incredible sense of depth, and we can imagine that it'll be difficult to go back to full-HD once you've used a smartphone or tablet with a Quad HD screen like this one. Which is not to say the the iPhone 6 Plus display is in any way a bad screen, just that the Note 4's is quantifiably better."

We should put this big lie of android lag to rest. Give me 2 apps, any apps, and ill do a fresh reboot on my android and ios devices and video me opening the apps. Any apps, ill load them up and video it.

On no planet does the CPU rank badly. Now you're literally just making it up as you go along.

Oh my god, it really is 2012 with these old saws. "True multitasking." Yeah, all those programs running in the background eating RAM for no reason has proven to be amazing for productivity. Also, Multi window?? Listen, it's okay to prefer Android but when you start wheeling out the gimmicky stuff no one actually uses you're grasping at straws. "Oh look, I can make my web browser really tiny while I read email in a small window. Look at me, I'm getting things done!"

So..the gist of this review it that the iPhone 6 Plus isn't NOTICEABLY FASTER than a phone that supposedly has much more impressive specs? I think you should reread that review. These words you keep quoting, I do not think they mean what you think they mean. ;)

I have no idea why a QUAD HD screen is now the only bench mark? I own an LG G3. It is not noticeably better than even my iPhone 5S unless you're viewing QUAD content. Have fun with that, and watching your battery flicker down like a cigarette should you actually find any.

We will...as soon as Android phones stop being so laggy. If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure there are probably around 2 apps out there that you can open on a Galaxy S5 without lag. :)

Meh, you're not making any appreciable points. Multitasking and multi screens is quite awesome, it helps me out a ton in my productivity. It's certainly not a gimmick for my personal and business life. If they eat up RAM and CPU I wouldn't notice because I have plenty of it in my device. iOS may run smoothly sometimes, although it also lags in my experience, but it just doesn't have the horsepower to run multitasking and multi windows. This is EXACTLY the things an apply fanboi says, "oh who needs multi tasking, it's a gimmick". Lol, it doesn't surprise me because last year it was "who needs a 5.5" screen", and before that it was "who needs a notification panel" and before that "who needs copy and paste".

I can take your anecdotal experience, or I can take the word of the top professionals in the field like Displaymate. My battery ain't going anywhere, the Note 3 has insane battery life and the Note 4 will also. Jeez has anything you said been correct?

As for lag, once again I call BS, pure and utter BS spewing forth from your mouth. Give me 2 apps and I'll video them side by side and upload it. Either put up or shut up. Let's prove or disprove the lag issue, right here, right now.

And why so angry? Lol, my god take some heart pressure medication or something to relax you. It's just a phone for God's sake.

No matter which site I visit I see Android fans always bashing Apple fans. It's funny because people wait for a keynote/product announcement and then harp on about how it sucks compared to X or Y Android device. Sure, it's not as 'powerful' (or whatever the right word is) as the Android, but at the end of the day - why does it matter? I usually get my devices on contract and don't need anything crazy out of my device. I love all the sync features and am satisfied with my iPhone. Even if I had an Android, I would leave it stock. That's just how I am. So I mean, who really cares if Android is better? Sure if you like your Note 5 or Samsung GS5, then buy it. Why are you trying to convince iPhone users that Android is better. If it's better you buy it and stick with it. We'll stick to our iPhones. To each is his/her own. Simple. I drive a Honda, and I always have. I'm sure there are better cars out there with more horsepower, more torque, more whatever. But frankly I could care less. I'm enjoying my Honda and that's how it is with my phone as well.
This is pretty much my thoughts. I enjoy reading tech sites all over the web and unfortunately there are people who give Android a bad name. These are people supposedly so happy with their device because its the 'bestest' best thing ever, yet they feel they are on a crusade to convince iPhone users that what they are using is rubbish. I'm not saying some iPhone users are way over the top, some are, its just disproportionate with Android discussions.

I've discussed this quite a bit on this forum and have seen the word 'cult' thrown around so many times. Its laughable because its internet born propaganda that can't see past its own irony in my opinion. Why attempt to label a sector of consumers for buying something different? It all stems from individual people's own personal definitions of what is superior or inferior. Phones these days offer so much, its difficult to pin down why one is better than the other. The pro's and con's of each device have to be weighed up for your own needs, nobody else's.

The two iPhone's released last week answered much of the demand we have seen over the past few years and will hopefully satisfy the two camps wanting bigger screens. Its a bit of a bummer for me because I was more than happy with a 4" screen but will adapt because I want the current phone. I have no choice really unless I keep old tech. I say appreciate the releases for what they are and be happy with your own choices. Its not about pointing fingers and making fools of ourselves. :)

Fingerprint scanners are a dated technology, that's why no Android phones use it.

The lag on iOS is far worse than the lag on Android devices because the cpu and ram do not match, not even close.

Just as a heads up, while the G3 does indeed suffer from it's high-res screen the Note 4 does not.

The Note 4's screen has a LOWER power consumption than the Galaxy Note 3. Heck, it consumes LESS power than the HTC One(M7)'s 1080p, and Xperia Z(also 1080p) display.

More pixels and better power consumption? Nothing to complain about, only issue might be more heavy usage of the GPU.

For the Note 4, the power consumption argument is moot.

source: http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note4_ShootOut_1.htm
Displaymate said:
Comparison with the Galaxy Note 3:
The Galaxy Note 4 is 14 percent more power efficient than the Galaxy Note 3. This is due primarily to a 19 percent improvement
in the power efficiency of the Green Primary channel (materials and electronics). The results are scaled for the same Luminance.

Comparison with LCDs:
While LCDs remain more power efficient for images with mostly white content (like text screens, for example), OLEDs are now
more power efficient for mixed image content because they are emissive displays so their power varies with the Average Picture
Level (average Brightness) of the image content. For LCDs the display power is independent of image content. OLEDs have
been rapidly improving in their power efficiency. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 is 40 percent more power efficient than the
Full HD LCD Smartphones we tested for mixed image content (that includes photos, videos, and movies, for example)
with a typical 50 percent Average Picture Level, APL.
