Disabling it will still allow all your devices to work in find my like they have traditionally, through the internet. You’ll be losing the feature to find your devices if they’re turned off or not connected to the internet, however.

Thank you very much for this tip! I disabled it and now the battery life kinda doubled on 13 Pro Max. Before it was like 60-65% in the evening, yesterday it was 80% (2h screen time on average). At the same time FindMy usage was around 10-15%. And that is with zero AirTags paired.

But I just don't get it. My wife has a 12 Pro. Two Airtags paired, zero problems, FindMy is between 1% and 2% battery usage.

🤷‍♂️

You're welcome! Glad I could help, and I'm not really sure what's going on... I do have one airtag paired to my 12 Pro Max and with find my network disabled, the usage is between 1-2%, same as your wife's. However, if I enable find my network, my battery drains twice as fast as it does without it.

Where is the option of "find my network" and what are the features that you are loosing ?

I definitely don't want to loose the ability to find my phone if lost, find my airtags if lost, or not to be able to use location accuracy on all apps that needed.

Apple ID > Find my > Find my iPhone > there you’ll find Find my network.

If disable this, you’ll be opting out of Apple’s mesh network, but you’ll be finding your devices as find my via the internet instead of constant pinging (which seems to be the cause of the battery drain).

Background usage stabalised on my XS after the firmware update.
Since upgrading to the 13pro , excessive background usage has returned dispite removing and re pairing the Airtag

Well, i decided to give another try with ios 15.01
I reset the airtag using the remove-put battery 5 times and pair it again, it got the latest firmware.
I have it on my dog
The results of the first 36 hours are promising. Find My Network is enabled

Here is 09:00-18:00 where i was at work (no dog)

One more day away from home and it is on 11%, i think i'm one of the lucky ones and it got fixed.

I disabled also the 'notify when you left behind'.

what is the option "notify when found" does ? it is by default off

I noticed find my mostly runs in the background whenever the phone is on standby and bluetooth is turned on... I haven't seen a flat battery graph in ages thanks to this... Easily lose 5-6% of actual battery percentage if the phone is on standby for a few hours. The fix to this is to turn off bluetooth, but it sure is a hassle if I'm wanting to use my Apple Watch or AirPods, not to mention if bluetooth is turned off, "Hey Siri" triggers both the phone and laptop...

I have an iPhone 13 mini. My phone's lost 30% of the battery charge overnight. It's a combination of Siri and Find My. When I first got my phone, it wasn't draining that fast overnight. This is very annoying.

well, it is back to 92%
so if it stayed at 11% it was going to be a win

i give up with them. Put them in a drawer until Apple decides to acknowledge the problem and issue a fix

Has anyone benefited longterm from just resetting the AirTags?
I really don’t want to turn find my network off, because that will help me track my phone even if it is switched off in that crucial window before they erase it somehow.
has anyone been able to come up with any other solution or found any other solution on other forums?
Thanks.

No, didn't help.

Turning off Find my was actually a major change. Almost doubled my battery life on 13PM.

Oh damn. But how are you comfortable with turning find my network off?
What if you need it in case of an emergency and your phone is dead.

Also, will turning off Bluetooth at night help solve the battery drain?

I am not comfortable with this. Would rather have it on.

But I'll trade this for battery life.
I understand. It’s frustrating that Apple hasn’t come with any solution for this yet. And what confuses me the most is that why such a small number of people are facing this issue? Why are others with AirTags not having battery drain?

does anyone in this forum have AirPods Pro? I have noticed they battery drain has worsened since Find my network was updated for the AirPods Pro too. Anyone else facing the same?

thanks.

It looks like constant proximity and pinging is the problem. Probably unsolvable, they should have done it by now. This is why I turned the network off.

When it was just iPhones, it was fine. Rarely was a phone without a cell or wifi signal and had to resort to FindMy to report its location.

Now the number of devices went up drastically. Airtags, AirPods... all passive devices, resorting to nearby iPhones to report location.

And it really doesn't matter if it's your device or someone else's.

I was one of the fortunate ones where this worked. Purchased an AirTag last year sometime and my iPhone SE 2020 battery was draining from 100% down to 60-65% overnight, with the FindMy app showing 100% of that usage. After a couple of days I reset it, and from that point on FindMy has only been using 3-5% at most over the course of an entire day (and that's 5% of the used battery, where my battery is normally still at 50% remaining when I go to bed)

No idea why I've been fortunate enough for the reset to work, yet others haven't.

It seems the main issue is related to the AirTag being paired. I’ve just disconnected the AirTag and Find My seems to be fine for me.

I have AirPods Pro but haven’t noticed any battery drainage.

Lucky you. I’ve tried that a few times but didn’t work for me at all.

the Find My Network disabled is not working for me
two days and i have 45% on usage on the last 24h

Yes, it still shows usage (don't know why), but my battery life doubled.

Percent left at the end of an average day is now double (before it was 60% in the evening, now it is 80%).

??? that is insane! So how do we know if anything we do works ? just to measure by memory ? it lasted 3 days , now with airtag it lasts 1. What a fail on product from apple!

This is just my opinion. Might be placebo. Or whatever else. Not necessary Apple's fault. But I noticed it immediately after reading here to disable FindMy network.

I mean to be honest, battery on 13PM is insane. FindMy or not. It just bugs me, that constant pinging from rouge devices is using virtually the same amount of energy as average use (with screen on, taking calls, photos...). Again, could be just my perception, maybe other people, who have it disabled, have noticed something similar. But if it is true, then yeah, it's insane.
