I've used the shortcut to turn off Bluetooth and turn on Low Power Mode. While I no longer see anything under the battery usage when I'm sleeping (with Find My iPhone not visible anymore) I've noticed that it still drains 2% an hour. iPhone Pro 13. Is this normal? Theoretically, it means it can last for 50hrs when just idle but standby time seems a bit short to me. Even on apple.com, it says Audio playback is up to 75 hours.

2%/hr seems high to me. I also had a problem with Calendar using crazy high battery. Removed both calendar accounts and the problem seems gone. Now putting them back one at a time. Look for other apps that are using battery overnight, then address them individually: remove app or account, test, one at a time. Should be uncommon, but it could be a bug or data corruption.

since i removed airtags, 20% on betdime, 23:00, 15% at 07:30. Normal for my phone.
since i got it with my daily common use and apps, i have a charging every full three days.

Since removing my AirTag, FindMy no longer bothering me either. Battery life much better, though Pocket Casts sucks battery like crazy. And navigation apps seem to hit battery harder than I'd expect.

I'd expect AirTag to have some impact, but that was ridiculous.

What's funny for me though was with iOS14 I didn't have a lot of impacts (I had iPhone Xs though). Also, I got rid of Tiles because it was draining so much battery with my iPhone Xs on iOS14 at the time, but now iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 15 is equivalent to Tiles.

I wonder if I need to re-format my iPhone and start all over again.

Reformatting won't do you any good, you'll notice the exact same behavior. The reason you didn't have a lot of impact using AirTags with your XS Max is because the U1 chip isn't in any of the iPhones before the 11 series. That's also the reason you wouldn't have been able to use precision finding feature on your XS series.

It is the constant pinging of the phone to the AirTag through the U1 chip that causes the background activity of the find my app and consequently the constant background battery drain. This is expected behavior, and it will happen regardless of what you do. I don't think Apple will ever change it.

On an unrelated note, I also noticed that the notify when left behind feature doesn't work if you have location based alerts disabled (Which in itself constantly uses location, with or without AirTags), so there's another feature I won't be able to use without it taking a hit to my battery.

Being a customer of over 10 years, I can tell you Apple's quality of hardware and software has really gone down the pipe over the course of the last 2 years. Half their products don't work as they're supposed to and just cause unnecessary frustration which shouldn't honestly happen when you pay such a premium for their products. All they're concerned with now is earning more money.

iOS 15.1, yesterday night was the worst, 12% battery lost with Find My. I only have one AirTag, which I know disabled. Is there any other solution known?

15.0 does not solve it , that is a fact.
Give it a couple of days and tell us if you do not see any drain. Maybe you are one of the lucky. I thought also the same but after a week it got back to 95% use.

@coso the only solution is to remove them and return them. Maybe try to disable the "find my network" as suggested above but for me and other users didn't solve anything. For some it id.

Oh you are right. I think that is the culprit in my case, because I put the phone offline at night. I don't need the Find My network in my case. I'll try like this for a while then maybe re-add my AirTag

I was one of the first people on this thread to suggest turning off find my network helped with solving battery issues, and it did work for me at the time. However, now it makes zero difference, as long as I have an AirTag paired with my phone.

That said, I would still recommend turning off find my network, as it would prevent draining your phone's battery from getting pings from other people's AirTags in the wild.

I’ve had a single AirTag paired with my iPhone 12 since April. I’ve always noticed a bit more battery drain but over the past 24 hours Find My ran down the battery to zero for no apparent reason (nothing has changed).

EDIT: FWIW, Find My is not showing as active since I restarted the phone. It must have gotten into a runaway condition.

turning off find my network didnt help never. I had problems with iphone SE w/O U1 ship and same on my Ip 12. if u turning off find my network you also not able to use "Forget device" feature which is a big one. AT Still draining a lot of bat. I use them again (for testing) on ip 12 for 3 days and at night the only app which uses battery is find my with 100% even if Im in low energy mode. if you compare the find my in a big picture with ALL APPS for 24h. 2 Air Tags consuming arounf 4-5 % REAL BATTERY

Just an idea: if you have a Mac you can remove the AirTag from your current account and create a new AppleID account on a separate user account (and email address) on the Mac. You will need to log into that user account on the Mac in order to locate your item though.

HI !

I had the same problem, what relatively solved it for me was to disable, for each AirTag, the setting - "notify when left behind". The battery usage on my iPad dropped back to more or less normal.
Hope this helps,
Serban

The funny thing is my find my usage is always there when the phone is idle and not being used (like when I’m sleeping). Whenever the phone is actually being used, find my just isn’t in the apps using battery at all.

Readding the AirTag didn't seem to impact battery life much. Switching off the offline find my instead seemed to have helped standby autonomy

Wanted to give you an update. I don’t know if Apple updated AirTags behind the scene similar to how AirPods gets updated but the dread is now gone. The drain seems normal now and my iPad didn’t even drain the entire day! My iPhone was about 1% an hour and even less.

Do you have find my network and notify when left behind enabled or disabled?

Where can I find this? It’s not like AirPods it seems
"To check the firmware version of your AirTag, open the Find My application on your iPhone, then choose the Items tab in the bottom navigation bar. Then, choose your AirTag from the list of items and tap on the name of your AirTag. Doing this should reveal the serial number and firmware version of your AirTag. "

there isn't a new one since that day so i dont thing you have a newer one. So you either are luck or you have disabled some of the tracking settings. Or it will come back after a week like it does.
