My cousin, Brently, thinks the yellow model looks like a block of cheese.
And they've already copied it on the Android side:

Your girlfriend works from home and takes naps during the day, I'm sure she takes her work seriously.
That's incredibly condescending. What if she works in home health care? That can be very physical and exhausting. She could be a nurse, same deal. Both jobs are very serious jobs. There are plenty of businesses that are now forcing employees to work from home / telecommute X days per week to save costs.

Ignorant post. Short daytime naps have proven benefits for concentration, mood and general mental and physical wellbeing and are encouraged for people working mentally demanding jobs. Some cultures incorporate them into the working day.

Exactly. Not to mention hospitals having beds for on-call doctors to sleep in. Some require doctors to sleep if their shifts exceed a certain number of hours. Pretty serious work I'd say...

I said she must be doing something right, there was no sarcasm intended.

Do people who drive Toyotas, Hondas and Fords feel self-conscious when they drive to the store knowing that they aren't driving a Mercedes or Lexus?
Depending on your social group, yes, people may.

It wouldn’t be good for some people’s image if they bought the iPhone XR and rocked it in public bc people will think they don’t have the money to buy the best.

Anyone who wants to show out might be hesitant to buy XR for this reason.

EDIT:

iPhones are ABSOLUTELY a status symbol in other countries. So please don’t say it’s not. In America no, but yes for many places.

In fact, I had heard the gold color was aimed for Asia markets bc it’s considered good luck and symbol of wealth for many.

I genuinely feel sorry that you feel an iPhone is a status symbol and that you think people will feel poor having the ‘XR’.
You must be pretty self centred to think like that. Millionaires don’t tend to care about having the latest iPhone I’m afraid, some probably still rock 6S Pluses..

My opinion on that is, when they pay my car note they can pick the car I drive. Same thing with my phone, when they pay my phone bill they are more than welcome to pick the phone I carry.

Heh. I first read that as 6 Plusses. I think most would have upgraded from that a long time ago. The 6 Plus was problematic even in the first year.

The 6s Plus is decent though, and even more decent now that iOS 12 is out. Then again, some people are saying even the 6 Plus is OK now with iOS 12.

What a ridiculous thread.

EDIT: I7guy and I appeared to have been posting car analogies at the same time!
Funny you should mention that. One day I was waiting for my Toyota and had some time to kill so I went to the Lexus section to check out the stock they had.

There was a dentist there that said no doctor or dentist should ever drive anything less than a Lexus or equivalent, and he seemed half serious. I was like "WTF?". I was shocked that anyone could say that with a straight face.

But the existence of people like that leads me to believe this thread may not actually be a troll thread.

sure that's fine.

I've noticed there's a lot of middle age people in here, but I'm young and at the age when everyone wants to show off, so for some circles the self consciousness does apply.

I don't think you will impress many people regardless if you are using an iPhone max vs XR, if you are seen getting into a 1992 Honda Civic driving to Apartment B.

One of the few threads where I have read almost every reply.. Very interesting topic choice with even better replies.. I love you guys!

Unless their self worth is so low... I would say no.

You post like you are in high school.

Self worth does not come from a iPhone.

Time to step back and take personal inventory of your thought process. It needs a lot of growing.

Third world countries care about this stuff. In those countries last names have rank over others. If you don't have a good last name you can't no be a pilot for the Air Force. The color of your skin counts too. Unbelievable!!!

People ran around with iPhone 5c's just fine, the XR's will be just fine.

Stupid question. I would love to have a XR caus OLED isn't good for my eyes, lcd is so much better. Yes,Apple could-no SHOULD have put a 1080p screen on it but so be it.

The LCDs apple makes are highly praised by anyone. The only downside of 750p is when you watch a YouTube vid on 750p you can clearly see the quality loss. Damn you apple.

It's not a 750p screen on the Xr. It's an 828p screen.

Following that logic, Amazon Jeff Bozo drives around in a two year old Toyota Corolla so people think he cannot afford the best! And Warren Buffett drives a 10 year old Cadillac too. LOL!

I love my ceramic watch but am very self conscious when people say “oh is that the ceramic”.

I bought it for me, because I liked it.

I bought the xs max because “I” wanted it.

I hang with a friend that has a Nike watch. He has an S4 and I have a Camry, I guess that balances out.

Far more to life than judging someone by their phone.

Nope. I’ll love using my bezeless Face ID display while others will be stuck with huge white bezels with the old home button.

You're kind of judgy with that remark

I know. In fact, that’s the sort of person the OP must be talking about!

Actually, the SE shows that someone is bold IMO.

Most people probably get the best they can afford, whether it’s the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 8 or the iPhone X.

I’m assuming everybody can afford the SE especially with some deals or something.

But to CHOOSE the SE shows when you CAN get more especially like a used iPhone 7 or whatever shows that you got the SE bc you like it

And that’s cool

No, that’s the same damn thing!! You’d still be making choices based on social perception. Going against social expectations and norms on purpose, as a way to let the world know that you’re not going to play by the same rules as they are, is still playing by the same rules! It’s still reactionary.

Btw, I have an iPhone SE because I wanted a small iPhone, and wasn’t interested in the iPhone 7, or losing the headphone port.

If some people see me as poor: I’m definitely not. ;)

If some people see me as a total badass rebel: I’m definitely not LOL o_O

For my NEXT iPhone, I’ll consider the Xr and Xs Max. I prefer the XR because I’d rather have the LCD screen, longer battery life, smaller size, and some money in my pocket rather than the iPhone Xs Max and its OLED. The only reason I’d choose the Xs Max is if I like the tele lens (dual camera), which I’ve never had before. I can afford either model, so that isn’t the issue.

Considering how many X clones there are, people will probably look at your XS and go "Hey he has a Xaomi"

How will you ever live, OP?
Yah every time I go to Asia, they have iphone clones that are really hard to tell apart. The styling is 90% on point. The material looks really great actually but being an iphone geek I can tell the home button is not a circle so I can tell its an android.
