No case redesign for the Mac Pro is a disappointment, but oh well... no big deal. It already looks great as it is. Then again, we can only see the side of it, so there may be some changes to the front, like dual drive slots. And notice the Universal Binary logo is first the lineup? Hopefully this means some kind of major software is getting the UB upgrade, like say... Adobe CS3!!!

I'm not wishing too hard, but I am wishing. :)

I can't wait until Monday!

There's NO backlit keyboard on the MacBook.

It's just the way that photo is shot. The bevel catches the light.

If it were truly backlit, it would be a lot more noticeable than that, even on an image that small. Against the black and with whatever enhancement the graphic designer would do, there wouldn't be any question the keyboard is backlit.

Also, I'm with those that say that banner shows NOTHING new; heads would be rolling if that were the case.

The product banners that might show something new probably aren't even up yet - this is still five days away!

Does anyone think there may be another side (to the left of the words) that may show all the stuff that's missing:

• Mini

• iPod 5G

• 17" PB

• Maybe Some Displays

• Some more logos?

In other words, maybe this is a longer banner with text in the center and lots of small photos on either side?

OK this is a FACT - not an opinion. There Will NEVER Be A MacBook Backlit Keyboard.

Yes there will. How can you possibly say "never"?? It might not happen now but when backlit keyboards are the norm - and the probably will be - the MacBook will get a backlit keyboard.

Stop spouting off BS "Facts." You don't know diddly when it comes to the future, in fact, I'm saving this as a screen shot and it's going to passed down through the generations to be posted on these boards when the MacBook sports a backlit keyboard.

Nee ner.... :p

Is there something very dark just under the BlackBook- like a rectangle with a white(ish) square in the middle?

If so what is it?

It seems surprising that there would be such a big gap in the banner when the rest of it is so full.

Why There Will NEVER Be A MacBook Backlit Keyboard

Perhaps I agree with you, but do you have an justification/evidence for your "fact"? :)
1. Heat.
2. Product differentiation from MBP.
3. Cost.
4. Post Sales Applecare Service Costs.
5. Addition of a Backlit Keyboard would not gain a significant number of sales for the MacBook as it is today.
6. Not having it in the MacBook does increase sales for the more profitable MacBook Pros.

IOW, it's a feature that, if added, would take MORE sales DOWN from MacBook Pros that if withheld steers more customers UP toward buying a MacBook Pro instead.

I regreat that some of you fail to see the humor in this line of posts and take my stuff way too seriously. But then I'm not a scientist so my social standing here is quite inferior. :D

So why do it on the MBP if it doesn't gain sales? In fact, Apple should just get rid of it if no sales are gained! :p Lower costs and less heat just like you said ;)

1. Maybe a problem now but that can change.
2. Differentiation would come from something else - like different processors.
3. Will decrease in the future.
4. Not a good reason, Apple Care service costs will go up with new versions of Macs due to the retraining required. If Apple were worried about service costs there'd be nothing new ever released.
5. Yes it bloody well would.

Geeze you talk some bollocks sometimes MM.

I'm going to have to agree with those who are saying this banner shows nothing totally new, except for the Leopard disc. This is Apple we're talking about. The only way we're going to see a real leaked banner of some kind is if it's on Monday, the first day of WWDC. Details will come in... just be patient. :)

Cost Is The Underlying Factor In MacBook Design And Feature Set

They do it on the MacBook Pro because they can. The Pro models are supposed to have everything money can buy and customers pay accordingly. Cost is an underlying factor on the less expensive MacBook to make a decent profit.

I bet $1 that what that banner says is "Current Platform"

If so, don't rule anything in our out from what you see there. The one that we want to see is the other banner. Everything on that banner is indeed part of the current platform.

Redesigned Mac Pros, MBPs, iPods and even iChat Mobiles, PDAs and iTablets are still in play as possibilities.

Notice that there is nothing Leopard-specific on the banner we have caught a glimpse of.

And what if the MBP gets upgraded to some yet-unnamed technology... surely that would provide a possibility of a backlit keyboard in a MB.

Basically, you can't see the future, therefore, you shouldn't be making such absolute claims on something as insignificant as a feature on a laptop. :)

Everything money can buy? Ah yes that explains the lack of a Mobility Radeon X1800, lack of FW 800 ports on 15", the mediocre battery life and display resolution lower than some of the other laptops floating around? And how do you know how much it costs Apple? Could cost pennies, but they wouldn't tell you that would they?

P.S. I'm not saying the MBP is crap, it is a brilliant machine.

It say "You Chose the Right Platform" some guy earlier has some other photos, what looks like an "n" is the bottom of the "h"

Backlit Not In MB Forces Sales UP To MBP Not DOWN From MBP If Backlit Was In MB

If it DID say "Current Platform", the Leopard disk wouldn't make sense.

Even so, I also don't think these images don't particularly pertain to what Steve Jobs will be talking about in the Keynote.
